Gony Zubizarreta had a great victory on the Allianz Ericeira Pro by Dakine, 1st stage of the Moche League that took place in Ribeira D’Ilhas, Ericeira.
The galician surfer currently living in Ericeira dominated the contest with high scores, leaving behind surfers like Tiago “Saca” Pires in the semi-finals and Vasco Ribeiro in the final. Gony’s surf was impressive, showing some strong manuevers and an amazing flow winning the final with 19.40 out of 20 points.
Gony was surfing with his Semente “Black Bird” Pro-Model shaped by Nick Uricchio earlier this year for him to compete on the WQS in Australia. However, it was on the Ericeira waves where this board seemed to work better.
“I felt very confident surfing with this board in Ribeira D’Ilhas, no doubt it’s one of the best I had for these type of waves”, claimed Gony. “It was shaped to surf all types of waves up to 1,5 meters. It’s a solid board on rail, has a lot of drive and is very loose on the harder carves. Working with Nick for 15 years has a lot of advantages. I am very thankful to the Semente family for supporting me thru all these years”.
Nick explained: “The board that Gony used is a 5’10” Black Bird model. It has an accentuated concave and a narrower tail to reduce the arch of the maneuvers quickly. We are very happy with his victory”.
