Vasco Ribeiro has been surfing amazing claiming back-to-back wins surfing with his board model VR-14.
The former four-time Portuguese champion and junior world champion won the MEO League 3rd stage in Praia Grande showing a very solid and consistent surfing. Then he went to Galicia for the mythical ABANCA Pantin Classic Galicia Pro where facing challenging conditions and competing with some of European best surfers he was the event’s best rider and finished his performance with a cherry on top becoming the champion.
Vasco Ribeiro has a big quiver and for these excellent results he highlights one of his magic boards with the specifications:
VR-14 – 6’0 ”x 18 7/8” x 2 3/8 ”x 28.6 Liters.
The VR-14 is the end product of Vasco and Nick Uricchio work. His work horse is a 6’0’’ Squash tail. This is a full outlined board with balanced width on both sides of the widepoint (center) with a slight flipped nose running into a smooth entrance rocker and a single concave bottom ending in a flat tail release. The deepest point of the concave is between Vasco’s front and back foot. This board is all about speed and looseness.
“I surfed with this board in the last two events and it is what we call a magic board”, said the local surfer from Poça beach. “It’s a super-fast board that works in virtually all conditions. It gives me confidence and allows me to do all the critical maneuvers. Only Nick be able to do these kind of wonders ”, he concluded.
“Vasco’s model is probably one of our models that has seen fewer changes since it was originally introduced,” said Nick Uricchio. “I think this model fit Vasco like a glove from the beginning. The changes that we have made have had more to do with Vascos physical structure than anything else, we have increased width, thickness and in turn volume to accompany his growth in height and weight, but the outline, distribution, bottom contour and rocker line remain unchanged. This design suits his power surfing approach and is solid in all wave conditions. There is an old expression that says“If the shoe fits wear it” I think this shoe has fit Vasco from the get go and we just keep making him new ones as he wears out the last pair”.
