Semente Surfboards gives you suggestions for your winter quiver. Surfboards for this time of the year have specific features and you must choose wisely to make the best of your surf sessions.
Shaper and co-owner, Nick Uricchio, shares his vision about the moment we are living and updates the latest information on the main models for this winter.
“Strange would be the only way to describe 2020 up till know. Covid 19 has been the boss, and positive changes have not arrived thus far, with constant restrictions and lockdowns delegating what we do, where we go and how long we stay in any given place.
The annual surf trip abroad has been canceled by most, contest are on hold or also canceled, in general all plans of movement outside of Portugal are risky and no one wants to take a chance on a flight and vacation plan that may not materialize. The modern Queen of big wave surfing (Nazaré) is only available half a day after delivering one of the most epic days ever. But there are as all of you know various vaccines in the initial phases of distribution which means there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Both large and small businesses have taken a beating since the beginning of the pandemic and there are still some rough months ahead and it will take time for the world to stabilize again.
There are things that pay no attention to a pandemic. Mother nature is one of them. The storms, winds and waves are not influenced by the sickness that dominates mankind. The autumn and early winter on our piece of the Atlantic coast have delivered some amazing surf, from North to South we have been blessed with some clean swells and epic conditions. Surf and surfing are alive and well and surfboard production has been on the upbeat. Here at Semente we have been producing a wide range of boards to meet the needs of surfers for local conditions for the present and future winter season. Within our models the Hitch which we introduced in 2016 has proven to be a serious go to for solid waves, we have built a lot of them recently with slight modification to fit individual needs. Variations of Vasco Ribeiro and Gony models have also been used as step ups for a lot of surfers who feel that their surfing style fits the mold of these athletes, not necessarily on level but on type. We have also done a version of the Bondo to fit heavier conditions. The Bondo was originally designed as a small wave board, we experimented with increased tail release and a tighter thinner tail and found that we could increase this models range for larger waves.
Guns and semi guns have also been filling our racks these days, for big days on our coastline or get away trips to the Azores or Madeira 7’0” – 9’2” Custom guns with glassing to stand up in solid surf. In general we are ready to build whatever lacks in your present quiver or whatever you are looking for within or outside of our models for this season.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for supporting us through the early stages of Covid 19 for your help in keeping our industry alive. It’s a “labor of love” and we had a lot of love from a lot of people, many thanks. Stay safe and keep surfing.”
